Titanium alloys consist of a combination of titanium and other chemical elements, such as aluminum or tin. Such metallic alloys are lightweight, corrosion resistant, and possess high strength-to-weight ratios. Due to these qualities, titanium alloys have been used in a variety of applications, including power generation equipment, marine hardware, and chemical processing.
While there are several types of titanium alloys, the most commonly used alloy is the titanium 6Al-4V alpha-beta alloy. It is a two-phase, a + b structure with aluminum as the alpha stabilizer and vanadium as the beta stabilizer. Titanium 6Al-4V applications include: compressor blades, discs, and rings for jet engines; rocket engine cases; and helicopter rotor hubs. The metals engineering company, Richard Metals, used Ti-6AI-4V-Eli (extra low interstitial) to create the escape mechanism for NASA’s Ares Orion rocket. It is also the grade of alloy most commonly used for thick-walled highly-stressed parts, such as the Japanese “Shinkai” for taper stress joints. These alloys are available in plate, sheet, bar, or forged billet form.

With the real estate market in a tailspin due to the ongoing economic woes of the current recession, many people are finding it far more difficult to sell their home than they imagined. When circumstances require extra effort in order to move property, the home staging business starts to look like a very attractive industry to be a part of. Many professional home stagers bear the label of Accredited Staging Professionals, or ASPs. When real estate as a business is suffering, ASPs might just end up being even more important than ever.
Home staging training is the key to being successful in this industry. Even if you have experience in the realm of interior design, the fact is that the aim of home staging is far different than that of traditional decorating. Learning the important distinctions is a must before you decide to invest your time and energy into this business.

Since the first game of paintball was played in 1981, the sport has evolved from something more like Capture the Flag to today’s sophisticated activity with several incarnations such as Woodsball, X-Ball, Speedball, etc. But if you haven’t been playing for many years, you might not know about all of the changes in paintball guns and paintball gun accessories that have been made over the years.
68Caliber runs a series of articles called “Then and Now” that looks at the evolution of the sport, including changes in gun technology, the latest feature. Author Steve Davidson talks about how the limited options when he started playing in 1983 (the Sheridan PGP, the Nelspot 007, and the NSG Splatmaster) have widened to include hundreds of branded options, with upgrades being offered often. The heavy, clunky, fixed-barrel, single-shot “old skool” guns have been replaced with sleeker, lighter, guns with semi-auto/electronically assisted firing modes. It’s a read that’s definitely worth checking out.
For the latest paintball technology, visit Speedy Toys. We’ve been a paintball gun store since 2002 and have been playing for much longer, so we’ve seen a few changes in the sport ourselves!

The U.S. Air Force Navy Pilots and Flight crews wore the MA-1 flight jacket in the 1950s. It replaced the B-15 flight jacket, which was the first in a new line of cloth-shelled jackets that were created to accommodate the invention of the new jet aircraft. The new jets were able to fly much higher and in much colder temperatures than their predecessors. Consequently, the older leather jackets that were used, such as the Type A-2 flight jacket, became heavy and uncomfortable when wet from rain or perspiration.
The original MA-1 bomber jacket was manufactured in sage green and midnight blue and was created from top-quality nylon fabrics and polyester interlinings. It was a practical jacket because it was lightweight and still kept the pilot warm. The jacket was updated many times throughout the years because of various reasons, including the advent of new textiles and aircraft cockpit designs. Most of the bomber jackets available today are similar to the MA-1. Replicas come in a variety of colors and styles.

If you are like most people under the federal Medicare program, you still have some out-of-pocket expenses for certain healthcare costs. The good news is there is a wide range of Medigap plans available to help cover these extra expenses.
Medigap plans, also called Medicare supplemental insurance plans, are offered through various insurance companies within your state. The first step to selecting a plan is to find out which companies offer Medigap plans in your state. For example, if you need Florida Medigap insurance, you can contact your state insurance department or the State Health Insurance Assistance Program for a list of companies in your area. However, another method that is much easier is to visit MWGInsuranceMall.com. Once you input your basic information, MWG provides you with a list of companies and insurance plans in your area. You will receive instant quotes from various companies and will have the opportunity to compare costs and plan details. A rule to keep in mind is that by law Medigap companies are not allowed to sell more than one Medigap plan at a time.

As one of the simpler processes in the world of manufacturing, roll forming is an ideal method for producing parts that are long in length or that will be made in large quantities. Roll forming lines begin with metal strips housed on a large spool. These strips generally measure between 1" and 20" in width and 0.0004 and 0.125" in thickness. This strip is unrolled from the spool (which is held on a dispenser) and fed into the special metal fabrication machinery that has been designed specifically for this process. The metal strip, after passing through the cutoff attachment, is sent through the forming rolls, from which the process gains its name. Generally, shaped rolls have been arranged in a sequence in order to create the intended shape over a series of stages. Some common roll layouts include overhung spindle rolls, flower-shaped, side rolls, and progressive upper/lower rolls. The arrangement depends on the desired final shape.

Growing interest in permanent make-up procedures has presented a number of lucrative opportunities for trained permanent makeup technicians. But in order to become truly successful, an aspiring technician must first receive the proper training in techniques, procedures, and equipment.
There are a number of organizations that offer such training, and a comprehensive education in permanent makeup can cost thousands of dollars. To optimize your education for future success, here are a few tips for choosing a program:
- Small student-to-teacher ratio. The student-to-teacher ratio makes a big difference in how much you’ll learn from the program. If upwards of 50 students are competing for one instructor’s attention, your questions are less likely to be answered, and you’ll receive less individual guidance. You could make a costly error and not even be aware of it.
- History of the program. Is the program relatively new, or has it been around for at least a few years? A program that’s weathered changes in the industry and in beauty can paint a fuller picture of working as a technician.
- Does the program offer career advice? If your goal is to find employment as a permanent make up technician, a program that provides career counseling and networking opportunities will ultimately be much more valuable than one that does not.

Every day, the safety of millions of people depends on tiny bits of metal that few people ever think about: fasteners. Nuts, bolts and more hold together the cars that we drive, the bridges we cross, the airplanes we ride in, and much more. Every day, our well-being depends on a wide variety of fasteners, which we assume will keep things in place.
However, our trust at times is unfortunately misplaced. In the mid 1980′s, product failures brought to light the fact that not all fasteners on the market were performing as they were intended. A two year study commenced shortly after this, with Congress leading an investigation into the industry that produces the machine screws and other fasteners used by manufacturers all over the country. The results of the investigation were disheartening. It was found that there were millions of mismarked, counterfeit, and just plain substandard fasteners in the market, many of which had been introduced via import. The use of these unacceptable fasteners was a real threat to product safety and reliability.
Because of these findings, the Fastener Quality Act (FQA) was passed. This act, signed by President Bush in 1990, was intended to protect the safety of the public by reducing the risk of fastener failure, from metric dowel pins to imperial screws and more. The law was meant to regulate the enforcement and monitoring of the standards and labeling in the fastener industry.

Due to the prevalence of investors unwinding their online forex carry trades, the Japanese yen appreciated 30% against a basket of currencies in 2008. Yet exports and industrial production have dropped, and Japan is currently mired in its first recession since 2001. The relative strength of the yen has actually harmed Japan in light of the fact that the rest of the world is still suffering the financial crisis.
One solution may be the so-called Tobin Tax, “a minute tax on forex transactions which will yield the revenue that can be used to counteract any major disruptive exchange rate fluctuations,” Seeking Alpha writer Lok Hang So explains. He goes on to say, “If exchange rates were determined only by current account transactions, exchange rates would never go out of line with economic fundamentals and could therefore be left to the free market. Unfortunately, these days short term capital movements easily dominate forex transactions originating from current account transactions.” Thus, the yen might be prime for the Tobin Tax right about now.
